In fact, most of the candidates from mass communication or journalism stream have a definite reason to explore this world of fantasy. And why not, you have got a platform to air your voice and views. And every article you write is going to carry your identity as an editor, correspondent, a freelancer or so and so. Readers identify you with great regards that awakens you to write another piece of story.

Well, on web the scenario is entirely different. Typically for a Search Engine Marketing company or other online publishing organization (not for in-house job), this concept of creativity and freshness have a separate angle of view, much different from Newspaper editor or magazine author.

I am enthusiastic about discussing on how a web copywriter or content writer copes up with his or her regular job schedule. How much struggle or effort they are putting in to come up with something NEW that attracts people. NEW does not signify News here.

Since working for a SEO company, I am privileged to know the amount of SEO outsourcing assignments coming from overseas. US and UK are the most popular service recipient countries. We are much qualified to satiate their need, more than what they could expect from us.

Let us review some observations here:

I take pity on those who still turns a deaf ear to this serious complains. Yes, there are ways to practice white SEO and steer clear of the bad mouths once again. Why not? We Indians do the major SEO outsourcing work than any countries in the world.

Good to see a pool of link builders toiling day after day for successful link implanting. Nice work but not going to over rule Google World after few decades if the links are not contextual or so. Your anchor text from the keyword stuffed poor page  would not get much value if the page linking to it does not have really some thing worthy for visitors. Your website is going to be known not for having thousands of outbound links from resource pages of scraps, but for the information associated with it.

It means blogs, articles all such contents are going to rein in next decades. Because it has strength and support of reader’s interest that is automatically being loved by readers and thereafter Google and other search engines subsequently.

I hope the link builders from reputed SEO organizations and obviously the freelancers  will think beyond the stereo type practice of adding link to the garbage pages pointing to millions of irrelevant references. Rather get updates from SEO experts and stop creating nothing but a spammy link farm.Do you still like to be called as Spammer?

From learner’s point of view whether you are a Web developer, SEO professional, IT personnel of a Business Corporation or a freelancer, having some knowledge on most common terms of Web is important. Web Domain is such a useful concept with universal application. Though experienced but learning little things on such hot terms may brush up your basics once again.

What is Domain name?

A name that identifies one or more IP addresses. Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages.

For example, in the URL http://www.pcwebopedia.com/index.html, the domain name is pcwebopedia.com

Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain (TLD) it belongs to.

Current top-level domains include:

• com – commercial businesses; this is the most common TLD
• gov – U.S. government agencies
• edu – Educational institutions such as universities
• org – Organizations (mostly nonprofit)
• mil – Military
• net – Network organizations
• ca – Canada
• th – Thailand

The Internet is based on IP addresses, not domain names, every Web server requires a Domain Name System (DNS) server to translate domain names into IP addresses.

How to register a domain name?

To register and start using a domain name you have to use the services of a domain name registrar.

The registrar you choose will determine the cost for registering a domain name, but in general expect to pay a yearly fee. Some registrars will offer discounts if you register for more than one year, but no registrar has the authority to sell more than a 10-year registration contract for any domain name. The registrar will ask you to provide some contact and technical information to have on record. This information is stored in a registry, which other computers can access to find information on your site. While it may seem like a privacy issue, it is best to be honest when supplying the contact information to a registrar. The registrar can cancel a contract and resell the domain name if it cannot contact an actual person to settle legal issues that may arise.

Legal Precautions:

There are many laws that regulate the registration of domain names, such as registering a copyrighted name or registering a domain name for the sole purpose of blocking someone else from using it. Check with your domain name registrar for the laws that affect how you register your domain name.

If you want to create a domain name and are not sure if it has already been taken, you can check a whois server that keeps track of all the registered domain names.

Whois: An Internet utility that returns information about a domain name or IP address. For example, if you enter a domain name such as microsoft.com, whois will return the name and address of the domain’s owner (in this case, Microsoft Corporation).

What is Domain Name Registrar?

The domain name industry is regulated and overseen by ICANN that certifies companies as domain name registrars. Only a domain name registrar is permitted to access and modify the master database of domain names maintained by InterNIC. The master database contains the documentation on all of the domain names registered to date. InterNIC provides a list of accredited domain name registrars .

At one time there was only one domain name registrar – Network Solutions , Inc. – but today there are dozens of accredited registrars. If you come across a registrar that is not on the list it is most likely that the organization is acting as a reseller for one of the accredited registrars as only an accredited registrar has the ability to modify the database of domain names.

Special Note on ICANN

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a nonprofit organization) regulates and over sees the domain name industry. ICANN was created by the late Jon Postel in the fall of 1998 in response to a policy statement issued by the US Department of Commerce. They have taken the responsibility for IP address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment, domain name system management and root server system management functions previously performed under U.S. Government contract.

Thus far ICANN has taken various measures to oversee the domain-name registration system’s transition from government hands to private hands and to coordinate its decentralization and the integration into a global community.

More often we conclude that online market has yet not developed in full fledge in India, one of the promising developing countries around the world. Though we started accepting Internet beneficiaries late but still grown up at a higher speed that possibly never thought of. Again some basic instincts of Third World country impinge on us saying there is not sufficient computer access and internet penetration in many more cities in India. Even computer literacy is still under construction stage. Forget about doing online transaction, we are afraid of providing our simple personal details on the Web even. In most of the cases consumers end up checking email, browsing some well known websites, chatting and forming Internet community for friendly conversation etc. More than information gathering and using it for all of our regular needs we focus on communication part of it. Then where do we stand against developed economies in terms of even and liberal format of business transactions on Web.

Few questions automatically arise over here:

• Why restricted or limited use of Internet for our commercial activities?
• Don’t we have minimum reliability on web and its resources?
• How could we analyze us a global citizen if globalization does not happen to us in the real global arena, The WWW?
• As a consumer or web user what prevents us doing simple research on product reviews, comparison and
profitable analysis?
• Is there any way we can build up the trust of online efficacy in bringing out best and suitable collections, and then required transactions etc.?
• Can we convince the company’s marketing authority on their need of sound web presence so that their
websites can routinely work for them?
• In spite of having all the ingredients of skilled workers, research scholars and advanced studies what stops us having unique presence on online?
• Though there are efforts coming from young generation on web use and dependency but still there are not much involvement of Government and Private players voting for Online spread. Why?
• Apart from mere discussion and expert reviews are any there hot ideas that can really drive the surge of real time use of Internet?

There are any more issues like this which refresh my concern for our Indian companies who still have enough patience to try out and examine their presence online for their profit making business. All business ideas, great efforts just end up in a physical boundary which is not sought after at all.

How do we react to Online?

In terms of Advertisers, Media and their business are vibrant here specifically with digital and print media. Right from creating awareness, educating customers, promoting product display, special offer announcement, customer retention and management every dint of activities generally end up with advertisement in newspaper, outdoor and TV, Radio channels. Reason is that People has to visit the physical market, need to touch the product, hear it from the seller, judging the number of footprints in the shop, feel it’s worthiness, taking time to analyze it, comparing with competitors and finally if every votes are positive, sales can be concluded. This is the typical Indian mentality of having fear of getting cheated, deprived and become looser with faulty dealings.

Fortunately there are few companies who do not have alternatives of offline marketing and advertising their business process. But for sure the number of such solely online dependent organizations is hand picked. More often one can find medium and small scale companies having at least a website efficiently designed by web designer experts that includes basic features of company’s product, company over view and a contact us Page.

On the whole apart from some typical branding pattern of Banner ad display in popular websites, newsletter, emails, those online advertisers do not want to cross the border of thinking one step ahead.

In fact I would see such effort quite similar to conventional promotional strategy. But there are hell lots of thing which we, the Indian advertisers either do not know or avoid due to lack of knowledge which is pathetic in view. We, Indians do the work for our clients abroad, a type of outsourcing activities for their web promotions. They are getting the fruits of high sales revenue with out harming social, economical and ecological balance of their countries. Agreed they have online customers ready for it. We do not have it yet. And we do not try also to find out the reason or sample solution cases by case. A Great wonder! We do not do for our native companies. Reason: Either those companies are reluctant to apply the easiest methods or we, the web marketer do not know how to approach them, any one.

Coupled with high-end business goals and dreams in mind, an ideal business man does every thing to satisfy his gut feeling. But how far one could be rest assured of his every plan or decision while running a business?

I had been with a publication Industry for some time and managed to view the survival strategies of many small units or start-ups. While pitching for advertisement in an English newspaper, they came up with so many excuses and negative feedback on this media industry . It was really sad to digest all those disheartening comments from my clients. Since the conversation used to be a process of fact sharing for most of the cases to understand the market demand pattern, I took genuine interest to know more about their business model. Unfortunately majority of these new companies with limited capital have loosed a great share of their hard-earned money in promotional activities. They are cutting a sorry figure when it comes to efficient and complete advertising for profound outcomes. Evidently if you are a 5 crore company with advertisement budget of 50 thousand per month it is quite difficult to get placed in a reputed media platform as opposed to your strong contenders.

Hence founders or the proprietor of those budding firms are not doing anything but confusing their business strategy and become more obsessed. This is not anticipated from a country like India that has already geared up to one of the most promising developing nations in the world.

The problem lies with the market research foundations and proper promotional strategy making tools you adopt to meet a competitive edge.

Internet can be, in fact it is a great resource for those concerns who are not finding their ways to get visible among key consumers. Whatever be your capital value, fixed assets or employee strength, they have hardly anything to do with your potential customer. Incidentally you need to find the difference between a people and a customer, realize their psychological demands and convert them to  loyal buyer.
